Here's my FaceBook birthday calendar today, October 31.

In August of 1987, Vice President George H.W. Bush explicitly excluded atheists from citizenship, and no one noticed or said anything.
In December of 2007, Governor Mitt Romney implicitly excluded atheists from citizenship, but he was called on it by major figures in the media, and had to walk his statements back.
In October of 2008, Senator Elizabeth Dole told us that being friends with an atheist disqualified one from serving in public office. Her accused opponent implicitly agreed, and everyone missed the point.
In November of 2008, California's 13th congressional district reelected the first avowed atheist in the history of the federal government.
